Craftsman Farms Birthday Celebration Being Planned

It’s a Little Journey we each should take.

While Elbert Hubbard seemingly never made one of his famous Little Journeys to Craftsman Farms, the 5000 square-foot log home Gustav Stickley designed and constructed in Morris Plains, New Jersey, had he been given the opportunity today, he most certainly would have found time for it.

And there is no better time for your journey to Craftsman Farms than this October.

On Saturday, October 16, the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms will be hosting a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of Gustav Stickley’s family home.

The “Craftsman Homecoming” gala will be held that evening at the nearby historic Mountain Lakes Club and will include the presentation of the Museum’s Als Ik Kan Award to honorary chair John H. Bryan.

Philanthropist and former CEO of the Sara Lee Corporation, John H. Bryan has been a supporter of Craftsman Farms from its infancy. An avid art, antiques and Arts & Crafts collector for more than 25 years, Mr. Bryan has gifted scores of major works of art to museums around the world. In 1985 he purchased Crab Tree Farm in Lake Bluff, Illinois, and undertook an extensive renovation of the buildings where much of his collection, including important works by Harvey Ellis and Gustav Stickley, is housed (See http://www.crabtreefarm.org)

In addition to the presentation of the Als Ik Kan Award to Mr. Bryan, the evening will include cocktails, hors d’ouevres, a gourmet dinner, dancing, a silent auction and a live auction conducted by David Rago.

In addition, the symposium, Honest & Beautiful: The Arts & Crafts Home in America, will be taking place that same day at the Newark Museum. It is co-sponsored by Craftsman Farms.

This truly will be an important day in the history of Craftsman Farms and one which you should make plans to attend.
