Small Group Discussions Announced For Conference
One of the most popular aspects of the National Arts and Crafts Conference at the Grove Park Inn has long been the daily Small Group Discussions.
These Small Group Discussions are designed to give you the opportunity to sit down with five to twenty-five other Arts and Crafts enthusiasts and ask questions, share opinions, and gain information on everything from art pottery to the philosophy behind the Arts and Crafts movement.
On Friday, the topics you can choose from will include advice for new collectors of art pottery, woodblock prints, and furniture. Or you can join a discussion on “What Happened to Arts and Crafts,” how to “Stickley-ize a Mid-Century House,” how to care for your Arts and Crafts furniture, or how to research unsigned pieces.
Saturday’s selections will include discussions on old house restoration, the Arts and Crafts philosophy, collecting Arts and Crafts textiles, identifying Craftsman houses, and the origins of the current Arts and Crafts revival. In addition, friends of Paul Duchscherer will have the opportunity to gather and share their memories of Paul with each other.
On Sunday we will have another discussion on old house restoration, as well as one on plant selection, advice for collecting Arts and Crafts jewelry and anything Roycroft, one discussing how to protect your collection with the right appraisals, insurance and inventory, and living the Arts and Crafts lifestyle.
Each of these discussions will be led by volunteers, who will be there as moderators, not presenters. The success of each discussion will depend on your involvement, bringing questions, opinions and photographs to any session you plan to attend.
