Special Events Highlight Arts & Crafts Conference
Each year three organizations plan special events for the attendees of the National Arts and Crafts Conference. Each serves as a critical fundraiser for the non-profit organization, and are carefully scheduled so as not to interfere with conference events.
Early Saturday evening (5:00-7:00pm), after the afternoon shows but before the 8:00pm movie, the staff of the Asheville Art Museum will shuttle participants from the Grove Park Inn to the historic Stephens-Lee Center, where Dr. Richard Hall will explore the Southern Appalachian landscape painting of William Frerichs (1829 – 1905). The cost is $35 for non-members and includes a light reception. For more information, please call (828) 253-3227, ext. 122 or go to:
On both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the Asheville-Buncombe County Preservation Society will again offer three-hour historic house tours. You can choose from either afternoon tour, as they will visit the same homes. Docents will be on the bus, as well as in each home, to add to your experience. Take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity to expand your conference experience beyond the walls of the Grove Park Inn. The cost is $ 35. For more information, please call (828) 254-2343.
And for early arrivals, on Thursday evening the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms will again host their Kick-Off Party, featuring Southern cuisine, live bluegrass music, and an Arts and Crafts Trivia Challenge. The party takes place in the Grove Park Inn’s Skyline Room, with panoramic views over downtown Asheville, where you can catch up with old friends and make new ones. Make it a special weekend!
