Treadway-Toomey Auction Preview
Treadway-Toomey Auctions will be holding their quarterly 20th Century Art & Design auction on March 4th at the John Toomey Gallery in Oak Park, Illinois
The beginning of their sale traditionally starts with Arts & Crafts items, but the first 216 lots in this auction are from the iconic Chicago saloon “Butch McGuire’s.” This portion of the auction will consist of nautical and maritime objects, paintings, beer advertising and other pub decorations. As a representative from the auction house noted, “It’s worth a glance through the variety of material on your way to the first Arts & Crafts lot, which is a wonderful Rookwood vase decorated with flamingos carrying an estimate of $5,000-10,000.”
Lots 217-407 in the sale will focus on the Arts & Crafts movement, but will also include Prairie School and Art Nouveau items. The sale will offer a Gustav Stickley model 625 hexagonal table with a leather top (est. $7,000-$9,000, pictured). L. & J.G. Stickley, Limbert and other firms will also be represented in the furniture category. Over sixty lots of pottery are slated to sell throughout this part of the auction and include a variety of makers, including Rookwood, Newcomb College, Walrath, Teco, Fulper, Clewell, Roseville and others. Among them will be lot 228, an attractive green glazed Hampshire Pottery lamp base and supporting a Tiffany Studios pomegranate shade in tones of green and yellow (est. $6,000-$8,000, pictured).
Additional lots in the realm of decorative arts will include items by Roycroft, the Kalo Shop, Tiffany Studios, Heintz (pictured), Charles Rohlfs, Joseph Heinrichs, Albert Berry and others. As John Walcher added, “There is something for every collector level in this sale, with low estimates ranging from $100 to above $10,000.”
