Preview – Unreserved Auction at Rago this Friday
Summer thrills may be winding down, but the thrill of an auction is still around the corner. Rago Arts holds their Unreserved Auction of early 20th Century Fine Art Estate goods this Friday, August 24th – session one of three lasting three days. Included among the auction items are pottery, glass, furniture, and silver items famous in the Arts & Crafts collection world – Rookwood, Fulper Pottery, Tiffany and Co. Glass, Roycroft, L&JG Stickley, Gustav Stickley, Dirk Van Erp, and a sizable collection of Heintz Sterling-on-bronze items.
This colorful early 20th century Bradley & Hubbard table lamp with Patinated metal leaf overlay out of Meriden, CT is sure to get some attention. Listed as “overall very good condition,” the lamp is made from slag glass, has three sockets, and the base is stamped “B&H 233” – the lamp measures at 23.5”h by 21”w. The estimate for the Bradley & Hubbard metal leaf table lamp is $800 to $1,000.
There are deals to be made when it comes to Arts & Crafts furniture – such as this Stickley Brothers two-door china cabinet with upper plate rail out of Grand Rapids, MI created in 1915. Made from Quartersawn oak with glass panels, it measures 58 1/2″h x 42″w x 14 3/4″d and is listed as “good condition” with a “replaced back” and an “overcoat to original finish”. The estimate for this Stickley Brothers china cabinet is $800 to $1200.
Items from the famous Tiffany Studios are well-represented, even a letter holder can be a sight to behold. This letter holder in the “Grapevine pattern” – crafted in New York in the 1900s – is made of slag glass with a bronze pattern and measures 6 1/2″ x 10″ x 2 1/2″. Listed as “good condition, with age-appropriate light wear to patina” and with the imperfections of a “Long crack and one smaller crack to largest glass pane”, the estimate for this colorful glass letter holder is $700 to $900.
Heintz – known for its silver – is well represented within this auction. Take this large Sterling-on-Bronze marked cylindrical vase for example – the online catalog lists it “Fair condition. Light surface scratches and scuffs throughout, primarily to overlay, two dents to foot, and older mottled redeveloping patina overall.” Out of Buffalo, NY, the vase measures 12″ x 4 1/2″ dia. The estimate for this Heintz Sterling-on-Bronze vase is $800 to $1,200.
