Mary Pratt Exhibit Featured at Roycroft Campus

The Roycroft Campus at East Aurora, NY is pleased to welcome potter Mary Pratt, a Master Roycroft Artisan in Ceramics, to The Neil and Barbara Chur Family Gallery for an art exhibit opening on April 27th, featuring a collection of her nature-inspired pottery. Entering its fourth year of operation, The Chur Family Gallery is located in the Roycroft Power House and offers a venue for artists to showcase their work that is steeped in the tradition of head, heart and hand craftsmanship.

Mary Pratt’s inspiration originates from the natural world of her everyday surroundings in her hometown of Fort Atkinson, WI. An ongoing fascination with botanical drawing, scientific depiction of insects, and meticulous medical illustration has dramatically altered Pratt’s approach in handling clay. Creating discriminating, sensitive, artful pottery fulfills and satisfies her creative needs on all levels.

“My inspiration,” Mary explains, “originates from the natural world in my everyday surroundings. An ongoing fascination with botanical drawing, scientific depiction of insects, and meticulous medical illustration has dramatically altered my approach in handling clay. Creating discriminating, sensitive, artful pottery fulfills and satisfies my creative needs on all levels. Releasing my concentrated life energy in this joyful way in turn strengthens others.”
“In the course of our existence, it is possible to live an entire lifetime never touching anything handmade. Like those who lived before me, I am committed to recreating nature’s detail with an ageless material. Through this renaissance of my work, I hope you will contemplate the natural world in a fresh way. Beauty is all encompassing, and joy is found in unexpected places.”

The Campus will host an opening reception for her exhibit on Friday, April 27th from 4 – 9 pm, in conjunction with the East Aurora Art Walk. This event is free and open to the public; guests will have an opportunity to meet Mary and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit will remain on display in the Chur Family Gallery through June 29th, open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
