While the final schedule of the online Arts & Crafts In August conference, containing live Zoom discussion groups, seminars, and demonstrations, has been released for paid registrants, there are a number of activities that are free to members of the general public during next week’s schedule.

Tuesday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM: Coffee with a Craftsman: Brian Brace of Brian Brace Fine Furniture (via his Facebook page)
Brian Brace returns Tuesday at 11:00 AM EST to describe in detail a recent custom made project. In this morning session free to everyone via his Facebook page, the craftsman, who recently celebrated 28 years of making furniture, will go over step by step his process for creating his custom-made furniture. He will be able to answer questions via Facebook if they are typed in the comment section.
Sunday, August 7th at 1:00 PM EST: “A Panel Discussion on Historic Preservation” via Zoom
The last Zoom discussion session offered as part of the Arts & Crafts In August online conference will be free for the general public to attend; the session is offered up free as part of the conference’s commitment to provide educational resources and connections to others in the community in the field of historic preservation, a field needing advocates and grassroots supporters to save historic sites and effect change at the local and federal levels.
The panelists for this special session include Alexandra Rasic, Executive Director of the Gamble House; David Rudd, President of the Gustav Stickley House Foundation; Amy Shook-Perez, Secretary of the Gustav Stickley House Foundation, Erica LeClaire of the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County and a few special guests poised to talk about the issues affecting historic sites and organizations, what we’ve done in the past few years (pre- and during the pandemic years), and what lies ahead in 2023 and beyond.

Circa 1917: Rediscovering Craftsman Farms hosted by the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms.
Published in 2021, this interactive exhibition shows the history of Parsippany Falls’s own Craftsman Farms and showing the full property as it was envisioned as a family home and Arts & Crafts utopia, built and its current version that stands today. Showing interactive maps, slideshows, and historic documentation, this comprehensive presentation created by Stickley Museum director of Collections Jonathan Clancy is not to be missed by the true students and supporters of the Gustav Stickley legacy.
