Back in mid-February, attendees and the general public were invited into three Asheville homes with Arts and Crafts influence and heard what it was like to live in and personalize these homes from the home owners themselves; the Arts and Crafts Home Tour was a popular virtual element to the first virtual National Arts and Crafts Conference and a fundraiser for the Preservation Society of Asheville & Buncombe County and served to remind others of a time in the not too distant future where people of similar interests could visit each other in a cozy environment filled with the things they love.
And now that same idea comes to not only the Arts and Crafts haven known as Pasadena, California, but to those with an internet connection.
With a simple click of a button, fans of historic homes and design will be able to explore seven of the historic homes of Pasadena’s Bungalow Heaven district – a 16-block area of historic homes many built in the Arts and Crafts style and examples of how ordinary families lived in the era of the early 20th century – in the Craftsman and English Revival style architecture. The tour, titled “As Seen Through A Lens,” will show docents leading viewers through a video walk-through of these homes and will impart commentary about the details of each home and its history. The tour will also include videos of artisans demonstrating their talents in restoration and tips and tricks of the trade.
Lastly, a reservation-only Zoom Q&A with California Bungalow historians will be held during the home tour to provide viewers the chance to answer questions and provide a learning opportunity for those interested in the study of the Californian bungalow.

Fans of Arts and Crafts home design can expect to see house design details like river rock and redwood shingles augment deep front porches, wide windows and interior details of wood, hardware, tile and glass that create the welcoming atmosphere of a craftsman home. The English Revival homes, also featured in the tour, will showcase the pitched roofs, multi-paned windows, stuccoed exterior, arched front doorways admired by those who love beautiful restorations and period appropriate renovations.
The exclusive video tour will be available for streaming from April 22nd through the 28th, 2021. The Q&A will be conducted midway through the week.
