The only church in Chicago to be designated a National Historic Landmark, the Second Presbyterian Church is recognized for its distinctive Arts & Crafts Interior, designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1900 and boasts paintings, fixtures, carved wood, metalwork and particularly stained glass by Giannini and Hilgart, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Edward Burne-Jones for Morris & Co. This presentation given by Glessner House Executive Director William Tyre will delve into this masterpiece by Shaw and his collaborators.

Renowned landscape historian Judith B. Tankard explores the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement on landscape design. A selection of gardens on both sides of the Atlantic will be shown to explore the movement’s diversity and appeal. Tankard is the author of Gardens of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Everything For the Garden, Gertrude Jekyll and the Country House Garden: From the Archives of Country Life, and other publications exploring landscaping and gardens.

Join us for a virtual Stickley furniture tour of Riordan Mansion. Enjoy hearing which were Caroline and Timothy Riordan’s favorite chairs. Learn how the five Stickley Brothers competed and mostly succeeded in a very competitive market. See five very rare pieces with metal inlay embellishment designed by Gustav Stickley’s designer, Harvey Ellis. Prepared and presented by long serving docent, Adrienne Rose.
