Annual Art Lottery Held Virtually Next Month

by Kate Nixon

The Roycroft Campus will be holding their Art Lottery Fundraiser on Thursday, May 6th at 7pm via Zoom. Tickets are $250 and include one lottery ticket for a piece of art valued at or above the ticket price, a signed print from the featured artist, and a gift bag with various items from the Roycroft Copper Shop. Tickets are currently available but will need to be purchased as soon as possible in order to receive information on how to participate in the lottery.

The event program, which will feature information on all donations and the bios of each artist, will be sent out two weeks in advance of the event. Participants will rank the items they want in order of importance and send back to the Roycroft Campus to prepare for the official lottery drawing. Winners will be revealed during the May 6th live event. Participants do not need to be on the Zoom meeting to win. The deadline for participants to send in their lottery choices is April 29th.*

Some examples of lottery donations valued at $250.00 or more include paintings, photography prints, sculptures, hammered copper works, jewelry, glass artwork, ceramics, hand crafted leather, and other mixed-media pieces. A lottery system will be used to draw numbers at random.

This year’s featured artist is watercolorist, Bob Maurer, whose limited edition prints of his original watercolor painting “Autumn at the Lake,” will be included with each Art Lottery ticket. Mr. Maurer has worked in watercolors since the early 1970s. Many of his landscape paintings are made in the arts and crafts tradition and heavily influenced by the California Tonalists of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

After the postponement of last year’s art lottery, the Roycroft Campus is excited to bring back the excitement of the in-person event with a virtual offering.  “We are thrilled to be bringing back this biennial event after we had to postpone it last year,” says Curt Maranto, Executive Director of the Roycroft Campus. “Although we wish it were possible to hold the Art Lottery in-person, we are excited about the opportunity this will provide to people from all over the country, and world, to participate and support the Campus.”

All proceeds from the Art Lottery Fundraiser will go towards the continued preservation and restoration of the historic Roycroft Campus.
