Pottery Lovers Will Unite In Zanesville In Early July

by Kate Nixon

The largest and oldest gathering of pottery dealers and collectors will reunite in the Buckeye state. Starting Thursday, July 8th, pottery enthusiasts can reunite with old friends and make new ones as the annual Pottery Lovers Show and Sale makes its return to Zanesville, Ohio next month from Thursday, July 8th through Saturday, July 10th  with a Preview Sales Event Wednesday evening beginning at 7 PM.

The Pottery Lovers Show sets itself apart from other shopping and selling experiences since dealers will set up their booths in their hotel rooms and collectors shop from room to room – a process that encourages buyers and dealers to interact and learn about art pottery in each room. The show will feature both antique and contemporary pottery works.

It is a highlight of the year for us because we love sharing stories, learning from the masters, making friends and leaving with a treasure. – Patti Bourgeois, Pats Pots

The room sales will open Thursday and run each day through Saturday until 4 PM. According to the Pottery Lovers website, rooms are open for sales at the discretion of individual dealers, but most will stay open from morning to dinnertime and throughout the evening. Longtime attendees know the friendly, intimate atmosphere of the show and getting to know lifelong friends at the annual show, like Pats Pots owner Patti Bourgeois. “I will never forget how surprised and overwhelmed I was by the sheer sea of pots on display in restaurants, in shops, in hotel rooms, on the sides of the road where the ‘locals’ came to sell their pots, it was crazy,” Patti says. “A kid in a candy store comes to mind….we knew we had entered another world, but little did we know that we would make lifelong friends with so many people.”

This year’s Show and Sale is hosted by Zanesville’s Holiday Inn Express and Suites Zainesville North, a smoke-free and pet-free hotel.

Barbara Gerr and Arnie Small, a husband and wife team who own Barbara Gerr Antiques, are very happy to be back after not being able to attend shows since the Spring Season of 2020. In an email to ArtsandCraftsCollector, Barbara and Arnie exclaim “We are very excited once again to be returning to Zanesville for the annual Pottery Lovers Show and Sale. This is our first show since early 2020 and we can’t wait to see our “old” friends and make new ones. There will be over 30 dealer rooms setup with pottery and attendees can go from room to room looking for that special piece.”

The in-person hospitality desk will be open all week, staffed with volunteers. The banquet tickets can be purchased at the desk and the silent auction items can be viewed and bid on by the desk as well.
