A “Crafts-Mas” Preview: A Log House Opens Its Doors, Roycroft Holiday Shows and More

by Kate Nixon

Folks in the New York and New Jersey area will certainly have their pick of holiday themed events to attend this first December weekend. The holiday season is now officially in full swing and historic organizations are celebrating with shows and one organization in particular is getting into the “Crafts-mas” season! Next weekend, collectors on the west coast – and across the country – can celebrate in the comfort of their own homes with an annual lecture and an Arts & Crafts auction.

Crafts-Mas at The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms

Saturday, December 4th and December 11th, 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM Eastern
No reservation required, masks are required.

On Saturday, December 4th and December 11th, the Stickley Museum will open the doors to the Log House for a free Open House in celebration of the “Crafts-Mas” season. From 1:00 PM to 6 PM on both Saturdays, not only will the Log House doors open, but a pop-up shop for the holidays will be open for the public in the lower level of Craftsman Farms’s new Education Center.

After delaying the museum’s opening due to recovering from the August 2020 damages of Tropical Storm Isaias, this marks the first time since March 19th, 2020 that the log house will have opened its doors. While grounds tours of Craftsman Farms have been offered earlier this year and continue to be offered, this opening on December 4th and 11th will be a welcome celebration as it will be a time to visit with supporters and be surrounded by Arts and Crafts Christmas decor, based on Gustav Stickley’s decor preferences as outlined in his magazine The Craftsman.

Ephraim Pottery limited edition “Let It Snow” vase from the 2019 winter collection. On sale during the Stickley Museum st Craftsman Farms “Crafts-Mas” Pop-up Shop this Saturday and Saturday, December 11th.

The Crafts-Mas Pop-Up Shop will offer contemporary seasonal Arts & Crafts gifts, including the new Motawi Tileworks Christmas Tree Tile in a custom colorway for The Craftsman Shop and the Ephraim Pottery limited edition “Let It Snow” vase from the 2019 winter collection.

“We are excited to re-open for two special holiday events before construction begins on the Annex and Log House Kitchen in 2022. December is a great time to visit Craftsman Farms, see the Log House decorated for the holidays in Arts and Crafts style, and buy gifts in our Crafts-Mas Pop-Up Shop for the Stickley fans in your life,” says Stickley Museum Executive Director Vonda Givens. “Our Open House events are free to the public, as a thank you to all of our supportive friends and neighbors. All purchases in the shop will support the museum’s daily operations and will help us move ahead with strength after two challenging years. And keep in mind, Museum Members received 10% off their entire purchase in the Pop-Up Shop!”

No advance reservations are necessary. Because of the close quarters inside the Log House, and to protect the health of visitors, volunteers and staff, masks will be required regardless of vaccination status.
