AAPA Convention Will Return to Ohio
by Kate Nixon
In the Spring of 2020, the American Art Pottery Association was poised to hold their annual convention in Blue Ash, Ohio at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Then in March of that fateful year, alongside widespread news of the now infamous Covid-19 pandemic, the country came to a stop and events all over the country were shut down, including the beloved convention. Businesses and industries countrywide were left scrambling as collectors everywhere stopped travelling and sought safety in their homes.
Two years later, the AAPA will finally come to Blue Ash to bring back their event, the 2022 American Art Pottery Association Convention and Shows.
Starting April 27th, art pottery collectors can reunite in Blue Ash, Ohio as the 2022 AAPA Convention and Shows will kick off and last through May 1st. The schedule for this upcoming convention is full of seminars, demonstrations, auctions and tours which highlight the city of Cincinnati with a tour of Rookwood Pottery and the local art museum. The AAPA Pottery Show and Sale will open to registered members only on Friday evening (April 29th) and will open to the public Saturday, April 30th.
Hosted by the Embassy Suites by Hilton Cincinnati Northeast Blue Ash, AAPA’s annual convention will provide an event-filled weekend that includes tours, meet and greets, seminars, and appraisals. The focal point of the weekend will continue to be the Pottery Show & Sale, where pottery dealers from across the country will convene to sell vintage and contemporary pottery to the collectors who love them.
The convention weekend is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, April 27th in Blue Ash with a welcome reception; activities throughout the week will include tours, seminars, auctions for conference attendees and of course, the Pottery Show and Sale.
There will be a Convention-registered member only show on Friday, April 29th from 5:00pm to 6:30 pm. On Saturday, April 30th, the show will be open to the general public 9:00AM to 5:00 PM. The show and sale will feature many of the country’s premier dealers selling both vintage and contemporary art pottery. The show will be a gathering place for AAPA members to shop this annual sale and reunite in the Queen City. AAPA members will also be given information about self-guided tours of several spots in downtown Cincinnati.
Throughout the year, members of the AAPA can enjoy the world of art pottery with each issue of The Journal of the American Art Pottery Association. The AAPA’s quarterly publication is filled with gorgeous color photographs of pottery and pottery marks, along with exclusive, in-depth articles on potters and operations from all over the country, information on collecting, buying, and selling pottery, and reviews of books, auctions, events, and more.
“Anyone who owns even a single piece of art pottery will benefit by being a member of the AAPA and by learning more about art pottery from the fabulous articles and color photographs in each issue of the Journal,” Bruce Johnson of the National Arts and Crafts Conference has declared.
If interested in attending the convention, please visit the AAPA’s website, aapa.info, to download registration forms and register by March 20th. All potential exhibitors must also register by March 20th; their registration forms can also be found on AAPA’s website.
