Festivals and Galas For A Great Cause: Coming in October

Starting the weekend of October 1st and 2nd, a number of festivals and galas will kick off the fall season with auctions, food and drink, entertainment and the chance to connect with other collectors all while supporting a great cause. The fun starts at Roycroft Campus with its upcoming Fall Festival, an annual event returns home at the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, and the Gustav Stickley House Foundation holds an evening of inspiration; all of the following events kickoff in the next two weeks. The Roycroft Campus Fall Festival
Saturday, October 1st and Sunday, October 2nd, 2022

Enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of autumn on the historic Roycroft Campus grounds. The event features over 70 artists, antique vendors, and community groups.

- Tastings from a local meadery
- Animals from Thistle Creek Alpacas
- Kids’ craft stations
- Live music throughout the weekend by the Samuel Tambe Trio (Saturday) and the Kristen Smiglielski Trio (Sunday).
the Copper Shop Gallery and the Furniture Shop on the Campus will additionally be open during the event. The Copper Shop features the work of over 100 local, national and international artists as well as a variety of unique gifts, artwork, and home décor. The Furniture Shop offers a range of antiquities and a pottery studio.

An Evening of Inspiration: Celebrating the Vision of Gustav Stickley

On Thursday, October 6th, an evening celebrating the legacy of Gustav Stickley will take place at the Skaneateles Country Club; An Evening of Inspiration: Celebrating the Vision of Gustav Stickley will be hosted by celebrated interior designer Thom Filicia and will serve as a fundraiser for the interior restoration of the Gustav Stickley House in nearby Syracuse, New York. Organized by the Gustav Stickley House Foundation and supporters, this year’s theme is “Als Ik Kan,” a phrase well known by Stickley supporters. In a statement on the event website, the organizers said the following about the meaning behind the phrase: “We chose the Inspiration of ‘If I Can’ for this evening’s event as a way to honor the legacy of Gustav Stickley and as a call to complete the restoration of his Syracuse home.” The evening will include cocktails, hors d’ouvres, and a silent auction: tickets can be purchased online or by sending a check in the mail. Interior designer Filicia is a Syracuse native and gained worldwide status as the interior designer on the Bravo Network’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” and as he told Syracuse.com, “Syracuse holds a special place in my heart, and Gustav Stickley has an incredibly important legacy as one of the originators of the American Arts and Crafts movement that helped guide social change beginning in the early 20th century,” Filicia said.

The Evening of Inspiration’s Silent Auction
During the evening, a silent auction will be offered to raise funds for the restoration of the Gustav Stickley House’s historic interior. Experiences will be offered, including a private behind-the-scenes tour at the Everson Museum of Art by Curator Garth Johnson and a private dinner for 10 prepared by and served at the home of Aminy Audi. Treasured collector’s items like two Tiffany & Co necklaces, a painting by Wendy Harris and glass art from Stephen Brucker.
A number of Stickley and Stickley-inspired works will be included in the auction like the Stickley Company’s own 2022 Stickley Collector’s Cabinet and a special Gustav Stickley-designed medicine cabinet built by Tim Livingston of Bungalow Workshop. In an email to ArtsandCraftsCollector.com, Tim considered it an honor to contribute his cabinet to a worthy cause. “I got into woodworking because I fell in love with the designs and style of Gustav Stickley and the American Arts and Crafts Movement,” said Livingston. “What started as a hobby 10 years ago quickly became a passion, and that passion led me to a career change to pursue woodworking full time last year. I can’t think of a better way to give back than to help raise money to restore the home of the man who helped ignite a fire in me that I never knew existed.” The design was taken from the “Home Training in Cabinet Work” of the 1905 issue of Stickley’s own publication The Craftsman: the design never made it to production during the publication’s run. Livingston however stayed true to the design as much as possible with the exception of the presence of the adjustable shelves. In addition, Livingston will run a promotion on his frames that feature design elements of Stickley’s; half of the proceeds from those sales will go to the Foundation for the restoration interior campaign through October the 8th. Fall Open House

The Log House at Craftsman Farms
The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms is putting together an exclusive “Craftsman Farms-to-Table” celebration under an outdoors tent onsite at Craftsman Farms, including live jazz from (crowd favorite) the Aubrey Anne Trio; small plates with locally-sourced ingredients, and a special signature cocktail. The evening will include silent and live auctions featuring special guest auctioneer John Walcher of Toomey & Co. Auctioneers.
Attire for the Craftsman Gala will be festive cocktail attire for an evening outdoors.
Among the items set to be included in the auctions is a two-person, two night package at the Grove Park Inn during the 36th National Arts and Crafts Conference February 17th – 19th in 2023. The Arts and Crafts Weekend Package (a $995.00 value) includes room and board at the Grove Park Inn Friday, February 17th and Saturday, February 18th in a preferred room of choice, a 30-minute early entry to the Arts and Crafts show starting on the Friday of the conference, preferred seating during the educational seminars, and all the benefits of a Conference Events Pass holder.
Tours will be suspended on Saturday, but a new offering will continue the very next day, free of charge. On Sunday, October 9, a Fall Open House will be hosted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Log House. During the Open House, visitors can explore the Log House at their own pace. For the first time in more than two years, the North Cottage will be open to visitors, who will have an opportunity to see the furnishings recently installed by Jonathan Clancy, the museum’s Director of Collections and Preservation, including the museum’s collection of rare Stickley green ash furniture. Visitors can also see the construction progress on the rebuilding of the Annex and walk the grounds of Craftsman Farms on a beautiful fall Sunday.
