Plans Announced for Craftsman Farms Weekend
By Vonda Givens, Executive Director.
At the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, we’re busy with preparations for The Stickley Weekend coming up on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8.
This all-Stickley weekend is a reunion, conference, and party all wrapped into one, with our mission to share Gustav Stickley’s Arts and Crafts vision and to preserve Craftsman Farms, the home he built to embody that vision at its heart.
These two activity-packed days will include:
Saturday Morning, 9:00am to 12 noon.
The 7th Annual Scholars Symposium
Sponsored by the Arts & Crafts Research Fund
Established to encourage rigorous scholarship on topics related to the Arts and Crafts movement, the Symposium supports the work of both emerging graduate scholars and distinguished scholars. The museum’s current exhibition, Original: Gustav Stickley Furnishes His Log House, will serve as a starting point for the 2017 Symposium presentations, including the Amy Stahl Memorial Lecture by exhibition co-curator Dr. Jonathan Clancy (pictured). Special guest and featured speaker Marilyn Fish, author of the New Craftsman Index, will present a lecture on The Craftsman magazine editor Mary Fanton Roberts. For more information and the latest Symposium details, visit http://stickleymuseum.org/programs/upcoming-programs/emerging-scholars.html. For tickets, call 973.540.0311
Saturday Evening, 6:00pm
The Craftsman Gala at the Mountain Lakes Club
Mountain Lakes, NJ
The Craftsman Gala, co-chaired by Eliane Talec of Rago Arts and Auction Center and by John P. Walcher of John Toomey Gallery, is a formal party with informal camaraderie and the museum’s most important fundraiser of the year. Held at the Mountain Lakes Club in Mountain Lakes, guests will enjoy a cocktail hour amid beautiful fall views of Mountain Lake, live music from New Hope Collective, and a delicious dinner. This celebratory fundraiser, raising funds to support the museum’s core operations, will include both a live and silent auction. Watch for advance information about these auctions — and an opportunity to shop while supporting a worthy cause!

Sunday Afternoon, Noon to 4:00pm
Open House at the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms
Morris Plains, NJ
On Sunday, The Stickley Weekend will culminate at the Log House at Craftsman Farms, with a free Open House spotlighting our ongoing exhibition and the centennial of Stickley’s 1917 sale of the property. Tours will be suspended for the day, allowing visitors the opportunity to explore the Log House interior at their own pace.
We invite you to participate in any portion of the weekend’s events — or all of them! Watch our website for news and mark your calendar now for two days of strictly Stickley fun that adds up to years of securing the legacy of this important Arts and Crafts visionary.
