CJ Hurley Exhibit Opening This Weekend in East Aurora
“Nature: The unseen intelligence which loved us into being.”
-Elbert Hubbard
Over 25 exquisite works by Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan CJ Hurley will be on exhibit at the Chur Gallery in East Aurora, New York through July 22nd.
Houses, Landscapes, Flowers and Dreams is an ongoing series of nearly 50 paintings and drawings. This series was created as an expression of CJ’s love for nature, the importance of humankind’s relationship to nature, and the relevance of nature to our well-being, and the health of the earth.
In his work, CJ strives to unify art and life, incorporating art into our everyday living environments. With his current work, he hopes the art will bring individuals to a new sense of awe and respect for nature and our place in it.
Whether by studies of individual flower species, landscape paintings, images of houses acting in harmony with nature, or attempts at expressing a mystic understanding of the natural world, nature is paramount in this body of work.
“Elbert Hubbard’s and the Roycrofter’s embrace of the Rural Idlyllic is a large part of what made me take interest in the Roycroft, and helped to drive my decision to apply for Roycroft Artisan status. As a Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan, I am honored to have my first solo exhibition on the historic Roycroft Campus.”
There will be a special Opening Reception this Friday, June 10th from 6-9pm at the Chur Gallery, which is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit cjhurley.com.
