Special examples of Marblehead pottery, another GPI chair, a Tiffany Wisteria lamp, and a small grouping of George Ohr pots: just a few lots of the special Summer decorative arts auction on Sunday, July 23rd hosted by Treadway Gallery.
The 275 lot seasonal decorative arts auction put on by the Cincinnati auctionhouse shows a number of works from important collections, starting with a number of European art glass vases by Daum, Galle and Loetz and the linotypes of Gustav Klimt before going into the valuable offerings of Tiffany Studios, mainstays of the decorative arts auctions, including a Tiffany Wisteria lamp in original condition ($12,000-$15,000) and a Lily lamp ($2,000-3,000). Additional lighting includes: two Handel lamps (1,200-1,700 and 3,000-4,000), a separate Handel lamp base ($400-600), and a table lamp in the style of Dirk Van Erp ($1,000-1,500).
The ceramic offerings in this auction include two Marblehead works – one vase ($1,700-$2,200) and a pair of bookends with a ship design ($900-1,200), three iridescent glazed vases by Pewabic Pottery, a small collection of six George Ohr works, multiple works by Artus Van Briggle, a vase from Byrdcliffe Art Colony, and many examples of high quality Rookwood vases and Charles Walter Clewell vases.
Grove Park Inn chair collectors will be interested to know the collectible Roycroft-made “GPI Chair” is up for bid this weekend ($600-700) and an additional Roycroft chair with a dark finish ($400-600) along with the Stickley chair and furniture offerings including: a Gustav Stickley arm chair ($600-800), a Morris Chair ($550-750), a v-back rocker ($250-350), and a Harvey Ellis-designed Stickley by Audi side chair with inlays ($200-300).
