Springtime for Art Pottery Fans at Treadway

Art pottery bright with spring colors, a colorful Wisteria lamp, Arts and Crafts metal and more will be available to bid on May 16th at Treadway’s 20th Century Decorative Arts auction. This 400-lot sale consists of ceramics, lighting, textiles, glass and fine art in several styles, including the Arts and Crafts era of style.

This auction is particularly strong in American art pottery and ceramic offerings. The catalog features an impressive amount of colorful Rookwood pottery and bright floral themed Weller and Rosewood (featured above) at a wide variety of prices, ranging from a couple hundred dollars to those in the thousands. Nearly 100 lots of Rookwood pottery will be available, including those created by Harriet Wilcox, Kataro Shirayamadani, Sallie Toohey, Elizabeth Barrett, William McDonald, Sara Sax and more. One Rookwood vase by Carl Schmidt in particular is estimated at a range of $25,000 t0 $35,000. Listed as “Excellent original condition, uncrazed and incredibly clean” this large exceptional example of Rookwood Pottery will attract plenty of attention.

The auction will also feature fine art, lighting, textiles, and art glass; work by Gertrude Abercrombie and Thomas Hart Benton, art glass by Daum and Lalique among others, Tiffany lamps, Arts and Crafts metal by Gertrude Twichell, Heintz metal, Liberty & Co, and more.  The sale features several pieces of Arts and Crafts metal by Gertrude Twichell, William Snelling Hadway, Heintz, Mildred Watkins, Liberty and Co., Roycroft, William Hutton, Ludwig, Vierthaler, Potter and Mellon, E.T. Hurley, and Jarvie. A large and varied selection of textiles round out the Arts and Crafts examples.
