How Many Arts & Crafts Shopmarks Are There?

I am on a Don Quixote Quest.

While not quite tilting with windmills, my quest does chase an Impossible Dream I first had twenty-four years ago.

And windmills do figure into this quest, most notably on the metalware of Dirk Van Erp and that of the Mulholland Silver Company outside Chicago….

Back in 1987 I published a small booklet entitled “The Collector’s Guide to Arts & Crafts Shopmarks.” It was 24 pages long and contained 38 shopmarks.

Since that time I have collected Arts & Crafts shopmarks with the same passion that I have collected Arts & Crafts antiques.

At last count I have accumulated 1,258 identification marks on Arts & Crafts furniture, art pottery, metalware, leather and lighting.

1,258.

My plan is to publish in time for the 25th National Grove Park Inn Arts & Crafts Conference in February a special limited edition paperback simply entitled “Arts & Crafts Shopmarks.”

With 1,258 shopmarks.

Before I do, however, I have a short list of firms for whom I need a better image or sketch of their shopmark. Some may simply have not had one; others may not have crossed my path through the auctions, shows, shops, books, catalogs, magazines and websites I have scoured for 24 years.

If you happen to have a shopmark for any of the firms listed below, I and your fellow collectors would appreciate greatly being able to see a photograph or sketch of the mark.

Plus, if you’re the first to send it, I’ll save you an autographed copy of the book!
