An Annual Pre-Conference Celebration
An annual tradition at the National Arts and Crafts Conference will continue over Zoom from the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms: a Pre-Conference virtual kickoff party with door prizes, a preview of the virtual conference and shows, Zoom bingo and more!
34th Annual Arts & Crafts Conference: Virtual Kickoff Party
Date: Sunday, January 31, 2021
Time: 6-7:30 pm EST
Location: Zoom link will be sent via email
On January 31st from 6:00 – 7:30 PM Eastern, the annual conference kickoff party is moving online as the Stickley Museum presents their virtual party via Zoom. During the party, you’ll be able to enjoy time mingling with old and new friends in Zoom breakout rooms organized by topic, win door prizes including a 2-person Arts and Crafts weekend package at the 2022 National Arts and Crafts Conference, play Zoom bingo, and we’re encouraging everyone to come dressed as your favorite Arts and Crafts superstar!
Additionally, attendees will get a preview of the online conference and learn how to make the most of your experience during the month of February. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds of ticket sales will go towards supporting the operations of the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms.
Executive Director of the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms Vonda Givens says, “Like so many fans of the conference, which I have attended since 2008, it will feel strange, and a little sad, not to spend time in Asheville this February, but we’ll make the most of the new opportunities offered by the online format. You can play Zoom Bingo or why not surprise us by dressing as your favorite Arts and Crafts Superstar (Men, who’s up for growing Ruskin-style mutton chops by January 31?)! The $25 ticket supports the operations of the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms and helps the museum stay strong until we can open our doors for tours again. Whatever corner of the world you call home, we hope to “see” you online at the Party!”
Online classes on Arts and Crafts Design Continue Through Arts and Crafts Month
What better tribute to Arts and Crafts than to continue the spirit of teaching about the Arts and Crafts movement? In addition to learning through the virtual environment of the Arts and Crafts Conference, the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms will be continuing their online classes through Zoom on Saturdays in February, this time concentrating on design and history! A fitting tribute to Arts and Crafts month, this six-session course throughout the month of February will explore the history of its design from the Gothic to Asian aesthetics to Rococo to Neoclassicism.
“Beginning January 23, we’re offering a new 6-session online series about the history of design. Throughout 2020 Jonathan Clancy’s Saturday classes took a “deep dive” into all-things Arts and Crafts and generally kept focus on the core years of the American movement. With this class, we’re taking a comprehensive look back—as far back as the 12th century!—at the roots of the Arts and Crafts movement within the broader context of design history. It’s new territory for the museum, but it seemed a perfect supplement to the “Arts and Crafts Month” activities being hosted by the National Arts and Crafts Conference. We hope you’ll check it out and join us.”
