Toomey & Co. Art & Design Auction Preview

by Kate Nixon

The fall auction season continues with the latest from Oak Park, Illinois’s Toomey & Co. Auctioneers. Toomey and Co. Auctioneers will hold their Art & Design auction on Sunday, September 16 at 10:00AM CDT. Toomey & Co’s online catalog – available at www.toomeyco.com – includes several Arts & Crafts items in lighting, furniture, prints, and more. Featuring works from Grueby Faience, Handel Lamp Co., Gustav Stickley, Frank Lloyd Wright, Teco Pottery and more, these valuable pieces are sure to fetch some competitive bids.

This fall auction will kick off one of several events Toomey & Co will host in the fall and holiday season, according to CEO Lucy Toomey  who we also interviewed this week as an Arts & Crafts Profile. In a previous interview, John Walcher, Vice President and Senior Specialist for Early 20th Century Design, had told ArtsandCraftsCollector.com of the importance items from the Arts & Crafts Movement representation play in their auctions. “We have always had a strong representation of fine furniture and decorative arts from the Arts & Crafts movement and will continue to do so,” said Walcher. “Our intent is to show the changes of design over time, while shifting some earlier periods outside of their chronological order, potentially cross-pollinating ideas of aesthetics. It’s an opportunity to introduce and educate new buyers to all periods of design without any breaks or gaps.”
