Notes: Cushman, H. T., Manufacturing Company. North Bennington, VT. 1892-1971. Founder Henry T. Cushman (1844-1922) was a pioneer in the mail order business and eventually expanded from selling novelty items to manufacturing furniture. In 1901 the family business began producing mission oak furniture and was noted for a library table with book shelves at either end. According to their history, Cushman was the first to begin spraying shellac and varnish finishes on furniture in 1913. In 1933 they introduced their popular and prolific Colonial Creations line. Their shopmark changed over the years, as evidenced by three seen here.
