Although not well-known for its Arts & Crafts collection, visitors to Cleveland should stop by, for the museum does have a respected Arts & Crafts offering, including (if on display) furniture by Greene and Greene, a Frank Lloyd Wright chair, and a substantial collection of Ohio area art potteries.

Although it is especially known for its Art Deco pieces, Cowan Pottery also includes examples of Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, and even Classicism. The Cowan Pottery Museum at Rocky River Public Library in Rocky River, Ohio, holds a comprehensive collection of over 1200 pieces of this distinctive form of American art pottery that was created first in Lakewood, Ohio from 1913-1917, and then in Rocky River, Ohio from 1920-1931. Cowan Pottery was the Cleveland area’s only major art pottery, and today it is internationally known and collected. For more information see their website.

After designing stained glass windows, books and lighting fixtures for the Roycrofters in East Aurora, New York, Dard Hunter returned to his hometown of Chillicothe in 1919 to establish his own printing operation. His home and studio remain in the family and his grandson, Dard Hunter III of Dard Hunter Studios, carries on the family tradition.

A Frank Lloyd Wright house designed in 1906 and built in 1908, the Westcott House differs from the traditional open floor design by incorporating several apartments into one house. Prairie School elements can be seen in the architectural design.
