GPI Furniture, Rare Kalo Shop Silverware, Large Roseville Vase and More Up For Bid March 8th

Furniture from the Grove Park Inn, a rare set of silverware from the Kalo Shop, and the largest vase in the Rozane catalog by Roseville Pottery: all three examples and many more lots will go to the highest bidder on March 8th.
Toomey & Co Auctioneers’ Art & Design auction starts Sunday, March 8th at 10:00 AM CDT. Featuring properties from the estates and collections of the Collection of Rich and Patty Thumann of Tacoma, WA, The Paul and Terry Somerson Collection of 20th and 21st Century Metalwork and Jewelry, The Scott Stahr Collection of Barrington, IL and others from important California and Illinois collections, the quarterly auction from Toomey & Co. Auctioneers features works from the well-known names of the Arts and Crafts Movement and its modern revival.
Furniture offered in the March 8th auction includes works by The Roycrofters, a large collection of Gustav Stickley pieces, and Charles P. Limbert Co. The Ceramic works offered will include Newcomb College, Marblehead Pottery, Saturday Evening Girls, Rookwood Pottery and Roseville Pottery to name a few. Additional works by Robert Riddle Jarvie, The Kalo Shop, Heintz Art Metal Shop, Edward Sheriff Curtis, The Handel Lamp Co., Steuben Glass Works, Tiffany Studios will also be well represented in the Art & Design auction.

With the large selection of Arts & Crafts style lots in store, Toomey & Co. continues to include icons of the early movement to the delight of American collectors. “We have always had a strong representation of fine furniture and decorative arts from the Arts & Crafts movement and will continue to do so,” said John Walcher, Toomey & Co Vice President and Senior Specialist for Early 20th Century Design. “Our intent is to show the changes of design over time, while shifting some earlier periods outside of their chronological order, potentially cross-pollinating ideas of aesthetics. It’s an opportunity to introduce and educate new buyers to all periods of design without any breaks or gaps.”

This particular form is the largest vase in the Rozane catalog produced by Roseville Pottery Co. in the early 20th century. The Crystalis glaze was developed by Frederick Hurten Rhead during his brief tenure with the company between 1904 and 1908.
